Of Cliffs, Coves and Temples

Length: approximately 7 km. Elevation: 210 m.

This walk will take us from the prehistoric temples of Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra, some of the oldest still standing man-made structures in the world, to the beautiful cove of Għar Lapsi and back. As soon as we leave the car park, we will be walking on some single track and it will be like that for nearly the entirety of the walk. Amazing views are guaranteed over the south coast of Malta and the islet of Filfla in the distance. Għar Lapsi is a great place for a swim or some refreshments, and then we get back to our starting point via a slightly different route.

Scenery: *****

Whoever decided to build those temples in this location had a great sense of aesthetics. Għar Lapsi is one of the most picturesque swimming spots on the island. The coastline inbetween is wild and rugged and offers some amazing views.

Difficulty: ****

This hike is not very long. However it involves a steep scramble to get from the temples to the coast, and some narrow, exposed paths closer towards Għar Lapsi.

Add-ons: We will be walking past the temples but not actually visit them. I highly recommend paying a visit to the museum and the temples before or after your walk (entry ticket needed).
