Picnic with a View
Length: approx. 10 km. Elevation: 150 m.
We start near the chapel on the Dingli cliffs on the south coast, near the highest point of the island. From there we walk southeast, towards a place known as is-Salib tal-Għolja or Laferla Cross, from where we can enjoy a panoramic view across most of the island. Next we head south, back towards the cliffs towering above the deep blue Mediterranean Sea. We take a break at a sumptuous secluded picnic spot with a five star view, after which we had back up towards our starting point, passing by a spectacular cliffside and the remnants of a bronze age settlement.
Scenery: ****
This one is all about wide, panoramic views. And trust me, the picnic spot is absolutely wonderful! Unfortunately, there is a small road section near a quarry, but that’s near the beginning and downhill, so we’ll just rush past there in a flash.
Difficulty: **
This walk is fairly easy, with gentle ascents/descents and also a few road sections, so nothing technical. There is one very small exposed spot, but the path is very wide there so no need to go near the edge.
Add-ons: you could consider visiting the nearby Buskett gardens, or a mysterious set of cart ruts known as ‘Clapham Junction’.
